Block Island Mushrooms & More

  • New Shoreham, RI, 02807 United States (map)

Sail away to beautiful Block Island for a guided Mushroom Walk with the Rhode Island Mycological Society (RImycoS). This field event invites beginners, students, young naturalists, and curious visitors to explore the island’s coastal landscapes while learning about mushrooms, fungal biodiversity, and community science.

This Block Island fungi walk focuses on nature observation, mushroom identification, habitat awareness, and ecological documentation. Participants will learn how to identify fungi in the field, observe their habitats and substrates, and record useful biodiversity data that support a growing understanding of Rhode Island’s funga.

The walk continues Block Island’s community science programming, where participants help document the island’s habitats, wildlife, plants, and fungi.

No prior mushroom experience is needed. Come ready to walk, look closely, ask questions, and spend time on one of Rhode Island’s most charming island landscapes. Take the Block Island Ferry, explore coastal nature, and help build a better record of fungal diversity on Block Island.
